PFRU and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding
The Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine are strengthening cooperation to support vocational education and training (VET) in frontline and border regions.
On 2 June, PFRU and the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their joint support for VET. The partnership will help VET schools better respond to the skills needs of hromadas and local labour markets.
For frontline and border hromadas, this cooperation has direct practical value. It will help VET schools align training more closely with local labour market needs and give students more opportunities to gain relevant, in-demand skills.
Valeriy Dobrovolskyi, Director of PFRU’s “Economic Recovery and Employment Opportunities” Strategic Project
VET is closely tied to economic resilience, opportunities for young people and the skills hromadas need today. This is why cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is important for PFRU: it helps make our support more coordinated, systematic and inclusive.
PFRU supports VET schools in 10 oblasts of Ukraine: Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Odesa oblasts.
This support covers several areas: strengthening institutional capacity, engaging with students, upgrading equipment, supporting communications and improving the safety of the learning process.
Through grants to partner organisations, PFRU works with more than 100 VET schools, reaching over 4,000 students, more than 100 teachers and over 60 school directors.
✔︎ Another area of support focuses on strengthening the communications capacity of VET schools. PFRU has already supported two schools in Dnipropetrovsk oblast in developing communications strategies and plans to expand this work in the next academic year.
✔︎ PFRU also provides equipment support. In total, 17 VET schools across the target oblasts are expected to receive equipment, except in Donetsk oblast. Two schools in Zaporizhzhia and one in Chornomorsk, Odesa oblast, have already received equipment, while procurement is ongoing for another 14 schools.
✔︎ PFRU is also helping create safer learning conditions: construction of a shelter is underway at one VET school in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Comprehensive support from Ukraine’s international partners through PFRU helps VET schools in frontline and border regions continue their work, improve the quality of education and create more opportunities for students, teachers and hromadas.
